Marilyn Manson

Formed in Florida in the early 1990s by Brian Warner (aka Marilyn Manson) and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz, Marilyn Manson quickly established itself as one of the most striking projects on the American alternative scene. Conceived as a whole that blends industrial rock, transgressive imagery, and a critique of popular culture, the band drew attention with Portrait of an American Family in 1994 before achieving a meteoric rise with 1996’s Antichrist Superstar, created in collaboration with Trent Reznor. Centered around Manson—the pivotal figure and principal lyricist—the lineup evolved over the years, while albums such as Mechanical Animals (1998), Holy Wood (2000), The Golden Age of Grotesque (2003), and The Pale Emperor (2015) marked successive periods in which the group explored different visual and narrative aesthetics, drawing on satire, contemporary art, American mythologies, and religious symbolism. Theatrically staged live performances helped define the project’s identity and lasting cultural impact. Despite numerous lineup changes and recurring controversies, Marilyn Manson remains associated with an artistic approach that fuses provocation, character construction, and reflection on public image. The band continues to occupy a singular place in the history of American rock, supported by a discography that traces three decades of aesthetic evolution around a single principle: turning popular iconography into narrative material.
