Las Robertas
Born in San José, Costa Rica, in 2009, Las Robertas initially coalesced around Mercedes Oller, Monserrat Vargas and Franco Valenciano, playing English‑sung indie rock that blends psychedelia, hazy guitars, pop melodies and a garage‑inherited nerviness. The band released its debut album, Cry Out Loud, in 2010—first on Art Fag Recordings and later reissued by Arts & Crafts—before taking that material to stages across the Americas and Europe, including festivals such as Primavera Sound, SXSW and Rock al Parque. After Days Unmade in 2014 the lineup evolved: Fabrizio Durán joined on drums, and Sonya Carmona contributed during the Waves of the New period (2017), when Las Robertas’ sound opened up to brighter surf and psych-pop textures. Since then the project has continued around Mercedes Oller and Fabrizio Durán, joined by Russell Sánchez and Daniela Quesada for Love Is the Answer in 2023, an album produced by Owen Morris. Throughout these changes Las Robertas has maintained a clear identity, balancing indie rock, melodic psychedelia and the direct energy of a band.
