La Dispute
La Dispute began in 2004 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at the intersection of the North American post-hardcore and emo scenes. The band, built around Jordan Dreyer, quickly developed a highly narrative songwriting approach, close to spoken word, set against tense guitars and often fragmented rhythmic playing. La Dispute first made its mark through several EPs before releasing their debut full-length, "Somewhere at the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair," in 2008—an album noted for its conceptual approach and strong inward focus. "Wildlife" (2011) continued this direction by structuring the lyrics as a series of narratives, while "Rooms of the House" (2014) tightened the focus around domestic scenes and a more clearly melodic sound. Established on the American indie circuit, La Dispute then undertook numerous international tours and a notable split with Touché Amoré, which rooted the band in a broader post-hardcore network. With "Panorama" (2019), La Dispute explored more atmospheric textures, extended constructions, and a subtler balance between spoken vocals, screams, and sung passages, while maintaining the meticulous lyrical work that has characterized their aesthetic since the start.
