Luke Vibert
Born in Redruth, Cornwall, Luke Vibert has built a prolific discography in British electronic music since the early 1990s. Initially active in groups before turning to solo production, he released the album Weirs in 1993 with Jeremy Simmonds under the name Vibert/Simmonds, and has since carried out numerous projects under aliases such as Wagon Christ, Plug, Kerrier District, Amen Andrews and The Ace of Clubs. Depending on the period and the label, his music moves through IDM, acid techno, drum and bass, trip hop, electro and more playful forms of breakbeat, marked by a taste for fractured rhythms, acid lines and sonic collages. As Wagon Christ he released Phat Lab Nightmare (1994), Throbbing Pouch (1995) and Musipal (2001); as Plug he issued Drum ’n’ Bass for Papa (1996), often linked to the rise of drill’n’bass. Under his own name he followed with Big Soup (1997), YosepH (2003), Lover’s Acid (2005), Chicago, Detroit, Redruth (2007), We Hear You (2009), GRIT (2022) and Machine Funk (2023). His career also includes collaborations with B. J. Cole on Stop the Panic (2000) and Jean-Jacques Perrey on Moog Acid (2007), and releases on labels such as Rephlex, Ninja Tune, Warp and Planet Mu.
