Abd Al Malik
Born in Paris and raised in the Neuhof neighborhood of Strasbourg, Abd Al Malik — born Régis Fayette-Mikano — frames his career within French rap while incorporating slam, spoken poetry and writing shaped by literature and social reflection. He first emerged as part of the group N.A.P., alongside his brother and acquaintances from Neuhof, on three albums released between 1996 and 1999, before launching a solo trajectory with Le face à face des cœurs in 2004. His work took on a more distinct profile with Gibraltar (2006) and Dante (2008), where hip-hop blends with chanson, spoken word and more open arrangements. Abd Al Malik continued with Château rouge (2011) and Scarifications (2015), maintaining a strong emphasis on text, autobiographical narrative, and themes of identity, spirituality and urban life. Alongside his music he has published several books, including Qu’Allah bénisse la France (2004), which he adapted for film in 2014, and he has developed stage projects related to Albert Camus that sit at the intersection of concert, reading and theatre.
