Kandis
Kandis was formed in the late 1980s in the small town of Hurup in northwestern Jutland. The group is part of the Danish tradition of dance bands and dansktop, with a repertoire focused on popular songs in Danish. Around singer and guitarist Johnny Hansen, Kandis developed a sound combining easily memorable melodies, schlager influences, country touches and a tempo suited to dance halls, which places the band on the bill at community dances, regional festivals and association events across Denmark. From the early 1990s Kandis released a series of studio albums and often‑numbered compilations, building a steady, extensive discography alongside numerous concerts and television appearances on programmes dedicated to dance music. Kandis's songs deal with everyday themes — relationships, nostalgia and provincial life — with a direct, accessible aesthetic. Over the decades the band has maintained steady activity, continued to issue new recordings and remains closely associated with the Danish dansktop scene, where the name Kandis denotes a highly recognisable approach to popular music.
