Juls

Between London and Accra, British‑Ghanaian producer and DJ Juls, born Julian Nicco‑Annan, has been shaping a personal approach to contemporary African music since the mid‑2010s. Raised in the Ghanaian diaspora in London, Juls roots himself early in afrobeats and highlife while incorporating elements of hip‑hop, dancehall and R&B, favouring mid‑tempo grooves, spare melodic lines and supple rhythms. First noticed online for his series of beats and remixes, Juls gradually moved closer to the West African scene and has worked with singers from Nigeria, Ghana and the Caribbean, building a network of collaborations spanning London studios, Lagos and Accra. Releases such as “Leap of Faith” (2017), “Ojekoo” (2017), “Colour” (2019) and “Happy Place” (2020) established him as a producer‑curator, bringing together voices and styles around his signature sound. With the albums “Sounds of My World” (2021) and “Palmwine Diaries, Vol. 1” (2023), Juls continues to explore an Afro‑diasporic sound that weaves highlife heritage, anglophone urban pop and Caribbean influences, heard both in clubs and on festival bills for new African music.
