Julie's Haircut
Formed in 1994 between Sassuolo, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Julie’s Haircut follows a trajectory that links alternative rock, psychedelia, experimentation, post‑rock and progressive touches. Initially grounded in a more direct format — between garage rock, noise and pop melodies — the band released Fever in the Funk House in 1999 and Stars Never Looked So Bright in 2001, before broadening their songwriting on Adult Situations in 2003. Over the 2000s Julie’s Haircut moved toward more open forms where improvisation, repetitive atmospheres and psychedelic textures play a larger role — a turning point heard on After Dark My Sweet (2006), made with contributions from Pete Kember, aka Sonic Boom. They continued that exploration on Our Secret Ceremony (2009), Ashram Equinox (2013) and Invocation and Ritual Dance of My Demon Twin (2017), a period that coincided with their arrival on the British label Rocket Recordings. The Italian outfit has also developed work for soundtracks and reinterpretations, notably Music from The Last Command (2019), while continuing to appear on Italy’s and Europe’s independent stages. In The Silence Electric was released the same year; Anna Bassy joined Julie’s Haircut in 2024, and Radiance Opposition followed in 2025.
