Judge Jules

Under the name Julius O'Riordan, Judge Jules emerged in London in the late 1980s, initially in British clubs and later on radio, with a sound that moved between house, trance and dance tailored for large club formats. His stage name comes from his law studies at the London School of Economics, undertaken at the time of his first sets. After a stint at Kiss FM he spent a long period on BBC Radio 1 from 1997 to 2012, during which Judge Jules helped establish trance within the British electronic scene. A producer as well as a DJ, he pursued numerous side projects, notably Hi-Gate with Paul Masterson and Angelic with Darren Tate, blending melodic trance, vocal hooks and progressive house structures. His career is also linked to Ibiza through the Judgement Sundays residency, later renamed Judgement, and he has played on stages such as Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher. Under his own name Judge Jules released the albums Proven Worldwide (2006) and Bring the Noise (2009), before resuming regular studio activity with his label Judgement Recordings from 2016.
