Jonah Matranga
Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, Jonah Matranga has built since the early 1990s a career that moves between alternative rock, post-hardcore, emo and acoustic songwriting. He first came to attention with Far, a band formed in Sacramento in 1991 whose sound blended melodic tension and dense guitars, notably on Water & Solutions (1998). After Far split, Jonah Matranga refocused on more stripped-down formats under the name onelinedrawing, issuing a series of EPs and the albums Visitor (2002) and The Volunteers (2004), where his voice and compositions take center stage, between indie rock, electric folk and introspective songcraft. At the same time he formed New End Original, which adapted some of that repertoire for a band setting on Thriller (2001), and he was involved in Gratitude, who released a self-titled album in 2005. Under his own name Jonah Matranga continued with And (2007) and You're All Those Things and Then You're None (2010), before returning to onelinedrawing for Me and You Are Two (2014) and Tenderwild (2022). Jonah Matranga has also lent his voice to collaborations with Thursday, Deftones, Fort Minor and Lupe Fiasco, in a register where rock intensity remains linked to a direct approach to the song.
