Johnny Logan

Born in 1954 in Frankston, Australia, Johnny Logan is a singer and singer‑songwriter closely associated with the Irish pop scene. He grew up in a family of musicians and turned to songwriting in the mid‑1970s. Logan became known for a repertoire of melodic pop and ballads with soft‑rock inflections, characterised by writing that emphasises the voice and orchestral arrangements. His career took on an international dimension when he won the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland in 1980 with "What's Another Year" and again in 1987 with "Hold Me Now", two songs that firmly established Johnny Logan in the European popular imagination. Alongside these victories he developed his work as a songwriter, notably penning "Why Me?", which gave Ireland another success in 1992. Over the decades Logan has toured extensively and recorded numerous pop and adult contemporary albums—particularly distributed in Ireland and Northern Europe—while regularly revisiting his Eurovision repertoire on stage and in various collaborative projects.
