John Anderson
Born in Apopka, Florida, John Anderson rose to prominence at the end of the 1970s in the neotraditional country movement with a throaty voice, a Southern-inflected phrasing, and a repertoire rooted in honky-tonks, country ballads, and a simple writing style often oriented toward rural America. Based in Nashville in the early 1970s, he first spent time doing odd jobs and club gigs before signing with Warner Bros. and releasing his first albums, including John Anderson (1980), John Anderson 2 (1981), and Wild & Blue (1982). This early period established John Anderson on the country scene with tracks like Swingin’, Wild and Blue, and Black Sheep. After a more low-key spell in the late 1980s, John Anderson found renewed broad appeal with Seminole Wind in 1992, the central album of his discography, followed by Solid Ground in 1993, which extended this revival with Straight Tequila Night and Money in the Bank. Over the decades, John Anderson has remained attached to straightforward, melodic, unpretentious country, while continuing his path on various American stages and across several labels. His discography also includes Takin’ the Country Back (1997), Easy Money (2007), Bigger Hands (2009), Goldmine (2015), and Years (2020), recorded with David Ferguson and Dan Auerbach.
