Jeremy Pelt
Born in California in 1976, Jeremy Pelt trained in the jazz program at the Berklee College of Music before moving to New York in the late 1990s, where he quickly became part of the contemporary jazz scene. His trumpet playing is rooted in hard bop and post-bop, characterised by crisp phrasing, a dense tone and a strong taste for melodic forms inherited from the American acoustic tradition. Jeremy Pelt has backed several leading musicians, including the Mingus Big Band, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Herring and Ravi Coltrane, while also building an extensive discography as a leader. Albums such as Profile (2002), Identity (2003), Men of Honor (2006), The Art of Intimacy, Volume 1 (2020) and Griot: This Is Important! (2021) illustrate the development of a musician loyal to the language of bop yet open to more narrative formats and more meditative atmospheres. Over the years, Jeremy Pelt has assembled a repertoire in which composition, improvisation and group interaction occupy a central place, approaching jazz in a way that is classical in its foundations and fluid in its forms.
