Jenny Berggren
Born in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1972, Jenny Berggren first rose to prominence as a member of Ace of Base, a group formed in the late 1980s with her siblings Jonas and Malin Berggren and Ulf Ekberg, originally called Tech Noir. Her voice belongs to a Scandinavian pop tradition marked by eurodance, reggae-pop and early-1990s dance productions. Initially the lead vocals were shared with her sister, but Jenny’s role became more central from the second half of the decade, and she also developed a songwriting role on several of the group’s tracks, notably on the album The Bridge (1995) and on subsequent records. Trained in classical music and with a choral background, she also sang backing vocals for the Swedish group Masque before putting aside studies intended for teaching. After Ace of Base resumed live activity between 2007 and 2009, Jenny Berggren pursued a solo path with a more direct, melodic pop approach, heard on the album My Story (2010) and on several later singles. She also participated in Denmark’s Eurovision selection in 2011 and in the Swedish TV show Så mycket bättre in 2015, while continuing to perform in varied contexts—pop concerts, 1990s nostalgia events and appearances connected to the Christian scene.
