Jeff Tweedy
Born in 1967 in Belleville, Illinois, Jeff Tweedy made his mark on the American music scene in the late 1980s with the alt-country band Uncle Tupelo, before founding Wilco in Chicago, where he became the group’s principal songwriter and singer. Alongside this collective work, Tweedy began a solo path in the 2000s defined by intimate songwriting that spans acoustic folk, independent rock, and stripped-down reinterpretations of his own catalog. This approach runs through albums such as “Together at Last” (2017), “Warm” (2018), “Warmer” (2019), and “Love Is the King” (2020), where he favors unadorned formats centered on voice, guitar, and subtle arrangements. Long based in Chicago, he regularly collaborates with other local musicians and has produced several albums for Mavis Staples, extending an interest in soul and gospel within an indie rock and Americana aesthetic. In addition to his work as a composer and guitarist, Tweedy also publishes books that blend personal memoir with reflections on songwriting, shedding light on his approach to creation and performance, particularly in solo concerts often built around direct dialogue with the audience.
