JB Dunckel
Born in Versailles, Jean‑Benoît Dunckel has, since the mid‑1990s, pursued a trajectory between electronic pop, ambient and film music. With Nicolas Godin he founded the French duo Air, which emerged with Moon Safari in 1998; their melodic writing, slow rhythms and plush textures left a lasting mark on electronic pop, before moving toward denser or more experimental directions on 10 000 Hz Legend (2001) and Talkie Walkie (2004). Alongside Air, JB Dunckel has developed a personal body of work under his own name and in other formats, continuing a taste for repetitive motifs, suspended harmonies and contemplative atmospheres. His albums H+ (2018) and Carbon (2022) deepen this vein with supple, sometimes minimal electronics, nourished equally by synth‑pop, krautrock and ambient. He also collaborated with composer Jonathan Fitoussi on Mirages (2019), an instrumental project that highlights his interest in steady pulses, slow movements and luminous timbres. On stage as in the studio, JB Dunckel shapes music of circulation and memory, where melodies remain clear while arrangements advance in layers, balancing French pop culture with a European electronic heritage.
