Javiera Mena

Born in Santiago, Chile in 1983 and based in Madrid, Javiera Mena has been developing Spanish-language electronic pop since the early 2000s, blending electropop, indie pop and indietronica. She favors direct melodies, synthetic textures and an emotionally charged songwriting that draws as much from pop songcraft as from Latin American ballads. Trained in composition and arrangements at the Instituto ProJazz, she first emerged on Santiago's independent scene before launching her solo career with Esquemas juveniles in 2006, then broadened her palette with Mena (2010), Otra era (2014), Espejo (2018) and Nocturna (2022). Across these records she has refined a more dance-oriented, nocturnal aesthetic while maintaining a tightly structured pop approach. Her trajectory has unfolded between Chile, Mexico and Spain, with appearances at festivals such as Vive Latino, Primavera Sound, Lollapalooza Chile and Coachella. Javiera Mena has also collaborated with other artists from the Spanish-language pop sphere, including Julieta Venegas, Li Saumet, Miranda! and Myriam Hernández, while continuing work as a songwriter and producer.
