Jasper Steverlinck

Based in Ghent, Belgium, Jasper Steverlinck first emerged in the late 1990s as the singer of the rock band Arid, whose sound moves between melodic alternative rock and more introspective, atmospheric passages. Alongside his role as frontman, he began a solo career in the early 2000s focused on voice and spare acoustic arrangements, notably through a cover of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” that placed him more squarely in the singer‑songwriter register. His writing in English favors direct melodies, often a moderate tempo, and guitar or piano work that leaves plenty of space for the vocals. The 2018 solo album “Night Prayer” confirmed this orientation toward a blend of pop, folk and intimate ballads, sometimes with a color close to chamber pop. Steverlinck also explores denser territory by collaborating with Dutch guitarist‑composer Arjen Lucassen in the progressive project Guilt Machine, where his voice unfolds in a heavier rock context. On stage he alternates between solo concerts, small‑format bands and tours with Arid, appearing in Belgian venues, festivals and dates across Europe, while occasionally serving as a vocal coach on Flemish televised music programs.
