Jamie Lenman
Born in Camberley, Surrey, Jamie Lenman first made his name with Reuben, a British trio active in the 2000s, for which he was the singer, guitarist and principal songwriter. Both within that band and later as a solo artist, Lenman developed a songwriting approach that moves between alternative rock, post-hardcore, metal, folk and jazz-tinged elements, with a marked taste for dynamic contrasts, taut melodies and more stripped-back arrangements. After Reuben split in 2008 he spent several years working as an illustrator before relaunching his musical career with the 2013 album Muscle Memory, built around a dialogue between highly abrasive tracks and acoustic or softer passages. He went on to release Devolver (2017), Shuffle (2019), King of Clubs (2020) and The Atheist (2022), evolving his live format at times as a band and at other times in a more pared-down setup. Present on the British alternative scene, Lenman has also shared projects and recordings with artists from the same milieu, including Frank Turner, while maintaining a distinctly personal identity founded on the tension between rock energy, rhythmic precision and a sense of rupture. In 2024 Jamie Lenman announced he would withdraw from regular recording and touring activity.
