Kevin Garrett

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1991 and later based in Brooklyn, Kevin Garrett has built since the mid-2010s a body of work situated between contemporary R&B, soul and pop, characterized by introspective songwriting, spare melodies and a strong emphasis on piano and keyboards. He first drew attention with the EP Mellow Drama in 2015 and continued in that vein with False Hope in 2017, where his approach blends vocal restraint, emotional tension and understated arrangements. Alongside his solo work, Garrett co-wrote and co-produced “Pray You Catch Me,” the opening track on Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade — a contribution that linked him to a project nominated for the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. His debut album, Hoax, was released in 2019, followed by the EP Made Up Lost Time in 2020. On stage, Garrett has opened for artists such as James Bay, Mumford & Sons, James Vincent McMorrow and Alessia Cara, and appeared at North American festivals including Bonnaroo, Sasquatch! and Firefly, performing in a format faithful to his minimalist, melodic aesthetic.
