I Mother Earth
Active since the early 1990s in Toronto, Canada, I Mother Earth developed around brothers Jagori and Christian Tanna, who shaped the project as an alternative rock band with a strong rhythmic identity. Initially fronted by Edwin Ghazal, I Mother Earth drew attention with the album 'Dig' (1993), where powerful rock blends with funk and psychedelic influences and a marked taste for extended instrumental passages. The band continued in this hybrid vein with 'Scenery and Fish' (1996), consolidating an aesthetic of prominent guitars, abundant percussion and song structures that sometimes approach progressive rock. After Edwin's departure in 1997, the arrival of singer Brian Byrne opened a new phase, reflected on 'Blue Green Orange' (1999) and 'The Quicksilver Meat Dream' (2003), where I Mother Earth moved toward a darker, more experimental sound while remaining rooted in alternative rock and melodic hard rock. The band regularly pauses its live and recording activities, then reformed sporadically in the 2010s—sometimes with both of its historic singers—and released new tracks as singles. In this way the group maintains a lasting connection to the Canadian rock scene, combining 1990s heritage with more contemporary reinterpretations of its mix of alternative rock, funk and psychedelia.
