Kamini
Between rural Picardy and northern France, Kamini shapes French‑language rap focused on everyday storytelling and social observation. Born in Roubaix in 1979, Kamini Zantoko grew up in Marly‑Gomont, a village in the Aisne that later became the subject of his song “Marly‑Gomont”; its online release in 2006 brought him to prominence on the hip‑hop scene. A former psychiatric nurse, he brings to his lyrics a perspective that is both detached and concrete on provincial life, attitudes toward difference, family and cultural gaps, in a style that blends rap, humor, self‑mockery and choruses close to chanson and pop. His debut album, “Psychostar World,” appeared in 2006, followed by “Extraterrien” in 2009, which continues this narrative approach and plays on the contrast between rural imagery and the codes of French rap. Over the years Kamini has increased his stage appearances and media engagements, developed audiovisual collaborations and co‑written the film “Bienvenue à Marly‑Gomont,” released in 2016 and adapted from his family’s story. He also takes part in television programs filmed in the Hauts‑de‑France region, extending beyond the studio the territorial and sociological perspective that characterizes his work.
