Hinder
Formed in the early 2000s in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Hinder developed a brand of rock rooted in post-grunge and hard rock, with glam metal elements and a strong emphasis on powerful ballads. The band, typically working as a five-piece centered around drummer Cody Hanson and guitarist Joe Garvey, first gained local attention before releasing an EP, “Far from Close,” in 2003 and the album “Extreme Behavior” in 2005, which established Hinder on the North American rock scene. The records “Take It to the Limit” (2008) and “All American Nightmare” (2010) continued this aesthetic of heavy guitars, radio-friendly choruses and a raspy vocal style, while “Welcome to the Freakshow” (2012) highlighted a more hook-driven, melodic approach. After vocalist Austin Winkler left in 2013, Hinder moved forward with Marshal Dutton, previously involved as a co-writer and producer, which helped maintain continuity in the band's writing and sound. The albums “When the Smoke Clears” (2015) and “The Reign” (2017) confirmed this new phase, with Hinder shifting toward a more modern rock while retaining early hallmarks — straightforward riffs, sentimental ballads and influences from mainstream 2000s rock.
