Håkan Hardenberger

Born in Malmö in 1961, the Swedish trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger has established himself in both classical and contemporary music through work focused on concerto repertoire and new commissions. Initially trained in Sweden, Hardenberger continued his studies in Paris and then in the United States, which led him to juxtapose the European trumpet tradition with more recent approaches to the instrument. His career has been built mainly as a guest soloist with numerous orchestras in Europe, North America and Asia, with a repertoire that ranges from baroque and classical concertos to works from the second half of the 20th century. Hardenberger works closely with composers such as HK Gruber, Toru Takemitsu, Mark-Anthony Turnage, Arvo Pärt and Rolf Martinsson, who write pieces for him in which the trumpet occupies a highly exposed solo role, often at the border between traditional orchestral language and contemporary writing. Alongside recordings and tours, he devotes a significant portion of his activity to teaching and masterclasses, helping to promote a trumpet repertoire that gives considerable weight to recent creations.
