Oliver Onions
In Rome, brothers Guido and Maurizio De Angelis launched their musical career in the early 1960s before adopting the name Oliver Onions, under which they developed a body of work situated between pop-rock, film music, light folk and hints of progressive rock. Their activity takes a central place in Italian popular cinema of the 1970s and 1980s, with more than a hundred soundtracks composed for the big screen and television, notably for several films with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill, to whom a significant portion of Oliver Onions' repertoire remains associated. The duo also works as arrangers, among others for Gabriella Ferri and Lucio Dalla in the early 1970s, while publishing their own records, including See You Later (1974), Six Ways (1979), Santa Maria (1979) and Future Memorabilia (2021). Oliver Onions signs several themes that have become very identified with Italian popular culture, such as Dune Buggy, Flying Through the Air, Sandokan, Orzowei or Bulldozer, with direct melodic writing, highly marked refrains, acoustic or electric guitars, choirs and an immediate sense of storytelling. After a more spaced-out activity from the late 1980s, Oliver Onions returns to the stage in the 2000s, notably with a concert in Lucca in 2007, then with the live project documented by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis Oliver Onions Reunion Live Budapest in 2017.
