Grubson
Born in Rybnik, in Polish Silesia, Tomasz Iwanca, also known as Grubson, has since the late 1990s developed a rap that blends hip-hop, ragga and dancehall into a form open to sung choruses and reggae rhythms. Initially active in several local groups such as W.S.quad, Siła-Z-Pokoju, Super Grupa and 3oda Kru, Grubson built his career on Poland's independent scene before releasing his first official album, O.R.S., in 2009. His music combines rap phrasing, the energy of a sound system, and accessible production, with a marked taste for crossovers between rap, reggae and song. He followed with Coś więcej niż muzyka in 2011, then Gruby brzuch in 2012 with DJ BRK, an important collaborator in his career, before Holizm in 2015, Gatunek L in 2017 and Akustycz(nie)Zupełnie in 2020. Over the years, Grubson has also worked with artists such as Rahim, Jarecki, Krzysztof Zalewski or Ania Dąbrowska, while remaining on major stages and festivals in Poland. After his stint at MaxFloRec, he co-founded the Supa High Music label with BRK, extending a trajectory where Grubson maintains a strong local anchoring while broadening his aesthetics toward more melodic, acoustic or collective formats.
