Götz Alsmann
Between jazz and chanson, Götz Alsmann has developed since the 1970s a distinctive aesthetic where swing, schlager and rearranged international popular songs intersect. Born in 1957 in Münster, Germany, he studied musicology and German studies there before gaining notice with the rock’n’roll-swing group The Sentimental Pounders and later the Götz Alsmann Band. A pianist, singer and arranger, Alsmann gradually placed increasing emphasis on German-language reinterpretations of French, American and Italian standards, working with textures close to cabaret, chamber jazz and film music. This approach crystallized in thematic albums such as “Götz Alsmann in Paris” (2011), “Am Broadway” (2014), “In Rom” (2017) and “L.I.E.B.E.” (2022), centered on revisited song repertoires. Alongside his tours in German-speaking venues and festivals, he has maintained an active career as a presenter on public radio and television, extending on those media stages his interest in the history of song, jazz and popular entertainment.
