Glassjaw
Born in Hempstead on Long Island, New York, in 1993, Glassjaw formed around singer Daryl Palumbo and guitarist Justin Beck, following the New York hardcore scene but with a more jagged and melodic songwriting approach. The band blends post-hardcore, alternative metal and, in its early days, elements of nu metal, with dissonant guitars, rhythmic breaks and highly mobile vocals that shift between abrasive tension and clearer melodic lines. Discovered in the late 1990s by producer Ross Robinson, Glassjaw released Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence in 2000 and Worship and Tribute in 2002, where the sound opened up to sharper contrasts and airier passages. Glassjaw’s activity then became sporadic, marked by frequent lineup changes, Palumbo’s health problems and side projects like Head Automatica, without the band entirely stopping touring in the United States and the United Kingdom. After the EP El Mark in 2005 and the releases Our Color Green and Coloring Book in 2011, Glassjaw returned to the album format with Material Control in 2017. Since 2015 Chad Hasty has been on drums, while Glassjaw continues to evolve around the core of Palumbo and Beck.
