Jamiroquai
Jamiroquai is an acid funk band that inspired many in the 1990s. At the heart of the group is its singer, Jay Kay, an eccentric, colorful character. The band began in England at Jay Kay’s initiative, as he brought other musicians together. From their debut album, “Emergency On Planet Earth” (1993), Jamiroquai scored a smash and climbed to the top of the charts. When their second album, “The Return of the Space Cowboy,” came out in 1994, success followed once again. On the strength of hit singles, concerts, and club nights, Jamiroquai built a worldwide reputation. Overshadowed by the charismatic frontman, several members chose to leave the band, but they were quickly replaced. Taking an electronic turn, Jamiroquai released its fifth album in 2001, “A Funk Odyssey.” It was another success, though it didn’t match the impact of the band’s earlier records. The group nevertheless carried on, booked for numerous festivals and concerts. True to himself, the frontman continued to intrigue crowds with his flashy, blinged-out cars while advocating humanitarian and environmental causes. In 2005, Jamiroquai took a five-year break with no album releases, but the band wasn’t done yet and finally returned in 2010 with “Rock Dust Light Star.” In 2013, Jamiroquai kept performing live, mixing classic hits with new tracks, including at French festivals such as Les Eurockéennes and Musilac.
