Frida Gold
Formed in the Bochum and Hattingen region in Germany, Frida Gold initially developed around Alina Süggeler, Andreas Weizel, Julian Cassel and Thomas Holtgreve, before appearing from the mid-2010s mainly as the duo composed of Süggeler and Weizel for public appearances. The project was born in the late 2000s after a shift from a rock aesthetic to a more synth-pop German pop, blending direct choruses, electro-pop textures and, at times, disco or indie pop accents. Frida Gold came to prominence with the track Zeig mir wie du tanzt in 2010, then with the album Juwel in 2011, propelled notably by Wovon sollen wir träumen and Unsere Liebe ist aus Gold. The group then went on tours, festivals and opening acts, notably for Bosse and then Kylie Minogue, in a radio-friendly yet worked, pop register, centered on Alina Süggeler's clear voice and a writing style that alternates melodic momentum with more introspective tones. Frida Gold subsequently released Liebe ist meine Religion in 2013, then Alina in 2016, a period when the band also further explored English before returning to German. After a break in discography, Frida Gold returned with new singles from 2019, including Wieder geht was zu Ende with Samy Deluxe, confirming a trajectory that links stage pop, acoustic formats and contemporary production.
