Flatfoot 56
Formed in Chicago in 2000 around the Bawinkel brothers, Flatfoot 56 developed a street punk that blends Oi!, hardcore punk and Celtic punk, marked by the distinctive Scottish bagpipes introduced early on by Josh Robieson. The band is part of the American Midwest punk scene, with a direct sound where punk rock energy combines with folk melodies, chant-like gang vocals and, at times, an openly Christian dimension. After a first EP in 2001, Flatfoot 56 released the albums Rumble of 56 (2002), Waves of War (2003) and Knuckles Up (2004), before broadening their audience with Jungle of the Midwest Sea in 2007 on Flicker Records. The band's trajectory continued with Black Thorn (2010), Toil (2012) and Odd Boat (2017), issued on various labels, balancing independence and specialized punk structures. Flatfoot 56 circulated the network of American punk venues and festivals, including appearances on the Warped Tour, and extended their discography with the EP The Vancouver Sessions (2018) and a split with The Rumjacks in 2022.
