Hollywood Undead
Formed in Los Angeles in 2005, Hollywood Undead first developed on MySpace before establishing themselves in the American alternative scene as a five-piece built around multiple vocalists—mixing rap, melodic singing and heavy rock choruses. Their sound blends rap rock and nu metal with elements of hip-hop, electro and hard rock in songs that alternate between chanted verses, thick guitars and more anthemic passages. The band also distinguished itself through the use of pseudonyms and, for a long time, masks that became a central part of its visual identity. After Swan Songs (2008) and Desperate Measures (2009), Hollywood Undead’s lineup shifted with Deuce’s departure and Danny Murillo’s arrival, featured on American Tragedy (2011). The discography continued with Notes from the Underground (2013), Day of the Dead (2015), Five (2017), New Empire, Vol. 1 and New Empire, Vol. 2 (2020), and Hotel Kalifornia (2022). Still active around J-Dog, Funny Man, Johnny 3 Tears, Charlie Scene and Danny, Hollywood Undead continues to evolve in a hybrid register between rock culture, metal energy and songwriting strongly marked by hip-hop.
