Euros Childs
Born in Freshwater East, Pembrokeshire, Wales, Euros Childs first established himself within Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci, a group founded in the early 1990s of which he was one of the principal writers, singers and keyboardists until its split in 2006. His solo career, started with the single Donkey Island in 2005 and then the album Chops in 2006, develops a universe situated between indie rock, folk-pop, psychedelic pop and chamber songs, with a central role given to piano and keyboards, in a register that is melodic, often quirky and sometimes minimalist. Euros Childs then released Bore Da and The Miracle Inn in 2007, followed by Cheer Gone in 2008, before pursuing a prolific discography largely released on his own label National Elf, including Son of Euro Child in 2009, Face Dripping in 2010, Ends in 2011, Summer Special in 2012, Situation Comedy in 2013, Eilaaig in 2014, Sweetheart in 2015, Refresh! in 2016 and House Arrest in 2017. In parallel, Euros Childs has pursued numerous collaborative projects, notably the duo Jonny with Norman Blake of Teenage Fanclub and Cousins with Meilyr Jones, while regularly collaborating with Welsh musicians from his circle. Since 2019, Euros Childs has also played keyboards and sung with Teenage Fanclub, extending a trajectory marked by Welsh-English bilingualism and by pop songwriting with flexible forms, between domestic whimsy, pastoral folk and light experimentation.
