999
Formed in London at the end of 1976 around brothers Nick Cash and Guy Days, 999 belongs to the first wave of British punk with a direct, fast and melodic sound at the crossroads of punk rock, new wave and a still-raw strain of pop-punk. Initially noticed on the London scene, notably at the Hope and Anchor, 999 released the single “I’m Alive” in 1977 and followed with “Nasty Nasty”, “Emergency” and “Homicide”, tracks that established the band’s identity built on taut guitars, short choruses and tightly focused energy. The debut album 999 appeared in 1978, followed the same year by Separates, then The Biggest Prize in Sport in 1980 and Concrete in 1981, at a time when 999 were touring extensively in the UK and also the United States. After 13th Floor Madness in 1983 and Face to Face in 1985, the band underwent several interruptions before resuming sustained activity from 1993 with You Us It!, later Takeover in 1998, Death in Soho in 2007 and Bish! Bash! Bosh! in 2020. Long centered on Nick Cash and Guy Days, 999 continues as a quartet with Arturo Bassick on bass and Stuart Meadows on drums.
