Hawksley Workman
Canadian singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman, born Ryan Corrigan in 1975 in Huntsville, Ontario, emerged in the late 1990s on Toronto’s indie scene with a rock sound tinged with pop, cabaret, and folk. His debut For Him and the Girls (1999), followed by The Delicious Wolves (2001), established his distinctive style: a penchant for contrasting arrangements, a highly expressive voice, and lyrics that braid intimacy, poetic imagery, and flashes of dark humor. Across releases from Almost a Full Moon (2001) and Lover/Fighter (2003) to Treeful of Starling (2006) and Between the Beautifuls (2008), he shifts between more electric productions and stripped-back approaches, while touring extensively in Canada and Europe. Alongside his solo work, Workman has served as a producer and co-writer for fellow Canadian musicians, notably Sarah Slean, Serena Ryder, and Hey Rosetta!, and has developed projects at the intersection of musical theatre, such as Songs from the God That Comes (2013). Old Cheetah (2015) and Median Age Wasteland (2019) continue this trajectory, exploring melodic rock where melancholic ballads coexist with edgier material.
