Hacktivist

Formed in Milton Keynes, England, Hacktivist took shape in 2011 around rapper J. Hurley and guitarist Timfy James, at the intersection of rap metal, djent, nu metal and grime. From the start the band crafted a dense, staccato sound driven by very low guitars, angular rhythms and shared vocals that alternate between rap flow, clean singing and harsher passages. Hacktivist drew attention with the EP Hacktivist in 2012, then rapidly moved on to tours and European festivals, sharing bills with acts like Enter Shikari and Korn. After several singles and a reissue of their first EP, the band released their debut album Outside the Box in 2016, followed the same year by the EP Over-Throne. The lineup later changed several times: Ben Marvin left in 2017 and Timfy James in 2018; Jot Maxi joined and was replaced in 2023 by JJ Olifent. Remaining active on the British metal scene, Hacktivist released their second album, Hyperdialect, in 2021. Now a quintet, Hacktivist continue to develop a formula in which the energy of grime and rap converses with a modern, percussive metal foundation.
