East Forest
East Forest is the project of American musician Trevor Oswalt, based in Portland, Oregon, where since 2008 he has developed a body of work situated between ambient, electronic, neoclassical and touches of indie pop. East Forest’s music relies on slow textures, meditative soundscapes, a pared-down melodic approach and a marked taste for contemplative moods, often connected to breathing practices, yoga or therapeutic work. After an initial run of releases in the late 2000s and early 2010s, East Forest expanded his activity by composing for Deepak Chopra’s game Leela in 2011 and later releasing albums such as Orbits (2014) and Elements (2016). His career has included tours across North America and Europe and appearances at events like SXSW, CMJ, Lightning in a Bottle and Mysteryland. In 2017 East Forest released Cairn with producer Keith Sweaty, moving toward a more atmospheric electro-pop vein. From 2019 onward he shifted more clearly toward immersive formats with Music for Mushrooms: A Soundtrack for the Psychedelic Practitioner, followed by Ram Dass, an album constructed from teachings by the American spiritual thinker. This thread continued with IN: A Soundtrack for the Psychedelic Practitioner Vol. II in 2021.
