Glen Hansard
Glen Hansard, an Irish musician and composer born in Dublin, has established himself as one of the most intense and versatile voices of his generation. In 1990 he founded the rock band The Frames, which gained national recognition with albums such as Fitzcarraldo (1996) and Burn the Maps (2004). With them he opened for Bob Dylan in 2007 and played iconic venues and festivals like the Hollywood Bowl and Lollapalooza in 2004. His profile became global with the independent film Once (2006), in which he starred alongside Markéta Irglová. The soundtrack, driven by the song “Falling Slowly,” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2008. The film was later adapted into a musical: Once premiered Off-Broadway in 2011 and moved to Broadway, where it won eight Tony Awards. In 2012 Hansard launched his solo career with the album Rhythm and Repose and embarked on an international tour. In 2015 he paid tribute to Jason Molina with the EP It Was Triumph We Once Proposed, then released Didn’t He Ramble, which received a Grammy nomination. His fourth album, This Wild Willing (2019), was critically acclaimed. Over the years he has performed in legendary halls such as Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and the Sydney Opera House, participated in major projects including Robbie Robertson’s Sinematic, collaborated with Eddie Vedder and appeared at tributes to Van Morrison and Patti Smith, building a career marked by fervor, authenticity and rare stage power.
