Glasvegas
Born in Dalmarnock in the east of Glasgow, Glasvegas formed in 2003 around cousins James Allan and Rab Allan, later joined by Paul Donoghue, and went through several drummers over the years, from Caroline McKay to Jonna Löfgren. The Scottish band developed an instantly recognisable indie rock built on reverb-heavy guitars, poppy melodies, a forward drum sound and a strongly accented vocal that roots the songs in a social, urban Glasgow imaginary. After self-released beginnings and a growing presence on the local scene, Glasvegas attracted attention in the UK with the tracks “Daddy’s Gone”, “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry” and “Geraldine”, before releasing the album Glasvegas in 2008, followed the same year by the EP A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like a Kiss). Their sound expanded on Euphoric Heartbreak in 2011, partly recorded in Santa Monica, and again on Later...When the TV Turns to Static in 2013. After a quieter spell in the studio, Glasvegas returned with Godspeed in 2021 on their own label. Between indie rock, romantic tension and a taste for wide, anthemic choruses, Glasvegas has also been a frequent presence on British, European and North American stages, through tours, festivals and support slots for established rock acts.
