DJ Godfather

Under the name DJ Godfather, Brian Jeffries has built a career in Detroit closely tied to the origins of ghettotech around the turn of the 1990s. Active as a DJ in the city’s clubs and after‑parties from his teens, he soon moved into production and developed a sound that combines Detroit electro, Chicago booty bass and very fast, dancefloor‑focused rhythms. DJ Godfather co‑founded the Twilight 76 label with DJ Dick and Brian Gillespie and later launched Databass, an important outlet for the scene that was relaunched in 2018. His output spans singles, remixes and mixes, characterized by a direct, repetition‑based approach, dry basslines and brief, club‑oriented vocal snippets. He has also collaborated with artists associated with this milieu, notably DJ Assault and DJ Deeon. Alongside his productions, DJ Godfather remains identified with a mixing practice marked by turntablism and a continuous link to Detroit’s electronic scene as well as to international bookings.
