Dirty Fonzy
Formed in 2003 in Albi, in the Tarn region, Dirty Fonzy emerged from musicians of the local punk scene. The band initially developed a direct, fast and melodic punk rock informed as much by street punk as by the traditions of the Ramones, The Clash and Rancid. Their first album, Playing Punk Songs, was released in 2004—before the band’s first gigs—and Dirty Fonzy soon began touring extensively in France and across Europe. With Here We Go Again (2008) their sound broadened to include reggae, ska, country, folk and occasionally more rock-oriented elements. That evolution continued on Playing Folk Songs (2009), a collection of acoustic versions, and on Underground City (2010), which mixes short songs, more pop-leaning passages and rhythmic detours. The band also released a split with Bad Chickens in 2009 and carried out the Dirty Babylon Breaker project with Babylon Circus between 2006 and 2007, blending punk, reggae and rap. Subsequent releases include Too Old For This Shit (2012), Riot in the Pit (2013), Hangover & Broken Dreams (2016), The Sky Can Fall On Us / Still The Worst (2020), Full Speed Ahead (2023) and Classic Stories Best Memories (2025). Still led by Angelo Papas, Dirty Fonzy has undergone several lineup changes while remaining rooted in a lively, compact punk rock songwriting style that remains open to other colors.
