Francesco Tristano
Born in Luxembourg in 1981, Francesco Tristano has since the early 2000s developed a career spanning classical piano, composition and electronic music. Trained at the Juilliard School, he first made himself heard in the keyboard repertoire, from Bach to Frescobaldi, Buxtehude, Ravel or Berio, with a constant focus on the interplay between ancient writing, contemporary music and improvisation. This approach runs through albums such as Not For Piano (2007), Idiosynkrasia (2010), BachCage (2011), Long Walk (2012), Tokyo Stories (2019), On Early Music (2021), followed by the complete Bach English Suites (2023) and Partitas (2024). In parallel, Tristano maintains a regular presence on electronic stages, where his playing articulates techno pulsation, minimalism and repetitive textures without breaking with his language as a pianist. His collaborations with Carl Craig, Moritz von Oswald, Derrick May, Chilly Gonzales or Alice Sara Ott illuminate this circulation between clubs, concert halls and cross-disciplinary festivals. He also founded the New Bach Players ensemble in 2001 and participated in the Aufgang group alongside Rami Khalifé and Aymeric Westrich.
