Dev/Null
Active on the East Coast of the United States since the late 1990s, Pete Dev/Null began as a drummer in the extreme metal scene before developing work focused on breakcore, jungle, and the older forms of hardcore rave. Based in Boston, Dev/Null has established himself in local circuits as a resident DJ for parties such as Heartthrob, Thunderdome, or Shake!, while also pursuing parallel careers as a producer, collector, and archivist. His aesthetic links early 1990s breakbeat hardcore, old-school jungle, 8-bit sounds and energy drawn from the harshest electronic margins, with a marked taste for chopped rhythms, raw textures and cyberpunk references. Dev/Null also runs the site Blog to the Old Skool, launched in 2009, devoted to rave history and rarities, as well as the BTTO Radio show on Jungletrain with Tim Reaper and the Demon Poetry program on NTS. Through his label 8205 Recordings, he rereleases or exhumes unreleased tracks of breakbeat hardcore and early jungle originally left on DAT tapes. Among his recent releases are productions published on EVAR Records, Modern Urban Jazz, Lobster Theremin, Future Retro and Parallax Recordings, in a continuity that blends archival work and contemporary creation.
