Fabio

Under the name Fabio, Fitzroy Heslop has developed, from Brixton in south London, a career tied to the evolution of the British rave scene. Active from the mid‑1980s on pirate radio Faze 1 and in clubs such as Mendozas, he soon met Grooverider, with whom he accompanied the shift from acid house and breakbeat hardcore to jungle and then drum and bass. Fabio and Grooverider are particularly associated with the Rage nights at Heaven in London, before taking that trajectory onto the airwaves — first on Kiss 100 between 1994 and 1997, then on BBC Radio 1 in One in the Jungle and in their own show from 1998 until their departure in 2012. Fabio later returned to radio with Grooverider on Rinse FM from 2016. His mixing approach favors a fluid, melodic drum and bass tinged with soul influences, often linked to liquid funk. In his discography Fabio has released several mixes and compilations, including Promised Land Vol. 2 (1996), Liquid Funk (2000), a second volume of Liquid Funk (2005), FabricLive.10 (2003) and Fabio & Grooverider: Drum & Bass Arena (2004).
