Curtis Stigers
Born in Boise, Idaho (USA) in 1965, Curtis Stigers first emerged in the early 1990s on the pop‑soul and adult contemporary scene before gradually steering his career toward jazz. Early on he settled in New York and honed his craft in clubs, singing and playing tenor sax in settings that mixed blues, rock and standards — experience that fed into his self‑titled debut album released in 1991, propelled by the single “I Wonder Why.” After Time Was (1995) and Brighter Days (1999), Stigers moved toward a more intimate format close to vocal jazz, recording for specialist labels and developing a repertoire focused on ballads, standards and covers of Anglo‑American pop, notably on Secret Heart (2002) and You Inspire Me (2003). In the 2000s and 2010s, albums such as I Think It’s Going To Rain Today (2005), Lost In Dreams (2009), Let’s Go Out Tonight (2012) and One More For The Road — recorded in 2016 with the Danish Radio Big Band around songs associated with Frank Sinatra — confirmed this direction. At the same time, Curtis Stigers wrote and performed “This Life,” the theme for the TV series Sons of Anarchy, and tours extensively between jazz clubs and festivals in Europe and North America, with a style in which singing, saxophone and songwriting occupy equal importance.
