Cody Johnson
Anchored in the Texas country scene, Cody Johnson shapes his artistic project between cowboy culture and contemporary songwriting. Born in 1987 in Sebastopol, Texas, he grew up in a rural setting, dividing his time between rodeo and music, and first gained attention with the Cody Johnson Band on the honky-tonk circuit and at regional festivals. After several self-released albums — including “Six Strings One Dream” (2009), “A Different Day” (2011) and “Cowboy Like Me” (2014) — he gradually broadened his audience with “Gotta Be Me” (2016) and by entering the Nashville scene with the 2019 album “Ain’t Nothin’ to It.” His songwriting follows a traditional country vein, driven by guitar, fiddle and a pronounced two-step rhythm, blending narrative ballads, rock-leaning tracks and recurring references to work, family and ranch life. With “Human: The Double Album” (2021) and “Leather” (2023), Cody Johnson continues an aesthetic that remains close to Texas bar country while engaging with mainstream American country production, supported on stage by his band The Rockin’ CJB.
