Isaac Wood

Born in England, Isaac Wood first established himself on the Windmill scene in London, where his approach blending post-punk, math rock and experimental rock took shape with Nervous Conditions and then Black Country, New Road, the group he co-founded in 2018. As a singer and guitarist, Isaac Wood develops a highly narrative writing and a phrasing often spoken, punctuated by semi-sung passages, in a setting that quickly evolves toward art rock, chamber pop, post-rock and a progressive folk with ever-expanding arrangements. This trajectory is reflected on For the First Time in 2021 and then Ants from Up There in 2022, two albums that document the move from angular tension to a more orchestral and melodic form. In parallel, Isaac Wood also releases music under the name The Guest, with 'Good Dog vs. Bad Dog' in 2019, in collaboration with James Martin, followed by 'Theme From Failure, Pt. 1' in 2020. He leaves Black Country, New Road at the start of 2022 for mental health reasons. His public return is announced in 2026 on the occasion of a European tour opening for Phoebe Bridgers, with a new band project developed with Anaïs Meiringer, while he also appears in the credits for the track 'Best Dressed'.
