Good Lovelies
Gathered in Toronto in 2006, Good Lovelies brings together Caroline Brooks, Kerri Ough and Sue Passmore, three singer-songwriters from Whitby, Port Hope and Cobourg, Ontario, who initially performed solo on the local scene. The trio developed an acoustic folk roots sound centered on vocal harmonies, with touches of Americana, country, pop and sometimes western swing. After the Oh My! EP in 2007, Good Lovelies released the album Good Lovelies in 2009, followed by Under the Mistletoe the same year, the starting point for regular work around seasonal repertoire and winter tours. The band then established itself on the Canadian and international folk festival circuits, with Let the Rain Fall in 2011 and the live album Live at Revolution in 2012. Over the years, Good Lovelies evolved their songwriting without leaving the harmonized vocal format, incorporating looser arrangements and a production more open on Burn the Plan in 2015 and then Shapeshifters in 2018, where the approach became more pop-oriented. This trajectory continued with Evergreen in 2019, B-Sides in 2021 and We Will Never Be The Same in 2023. In 2024, Good Lovelies collaborated with Raffi on the children’s album Penny Penguin, another facet of a career shaped by contemporary folk, collaborative songwriting, and tight vocal work.
