Club For Five

Formed in Helsinki in 2000, Club For Five performs a cappella in a vocal quintet format where harmonies, rhythmic arrangements and instrumental imitation serve as accompaniment. Their aesthetic moves between pop, vocal jazz and Finnish repertoire, with occasional ventures into Christmas songs and hymns depending on the project. Club For Five first gained recognition in 2001 by winning the ensemble singing competition at the Tampereen Sävel festival, and subsequently developed a performance career in Finland and internationally, notably in Europe, North America and China. Their discography begins with Ensi-ilta (2004), followed by Uni (2006) and Rekiretki (2007), then You’re the Voice (2009), Ihmiset (2011), Jouluna (2013), Ennen tätä hetkeä (2015), Songs of Kirka (2019) and Virret (2020) — a trajectory that shows the gradual broadening of their repertoire from arranged songs to thematic programmes. Over the years the ensemble has undergone several lineup changes; the current members are Maija Sariola, Saima Haapanen, Jouni Kannisto, Tuukka Haapaniemi and Juha Viitala.
