Clouseau
Formed in the mid-1980s in the Halle region of Belgium, Clouseau has from the start relied on the duo of brothers Koen and Kris Wauters, surrounded by musicians whose line-up evolved over time and ultimately coalesced around this central core. The band, named with reference to the inspector from the The Pink Panther films, made its breakthrough in the late 1980s with Dutch‑language pop focused on immediate melodies, ballads and an accessible pop‑rock sound. Participation in Belgium’s Eurovision selection in 1989 with “Anne,” and the release of the album Hoezo? the same year, marked Clouseau’s emergence on the Flemish and Dutch scenes. In 1991 the group represented Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest with “Geef het op,” before attempting an English‑language turn with the album Close Encounters that same year and then returning to Dutch for the long term. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s Clouseau released several studio albums, including Of zo…? (1990), Oker (1995) and Adrenaline (1996), building a repertoire centered on songs about personal relationships and everyday situations. Highly active on stage—especially in Belgium and the Netherlands—the band fits within a mainstream pop tradition, blending guitars, keyboards and prominent vocals, with a simple and direct aesthetic that remains at the heart of its musical identity.
